What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a way for apps and websites to earn a small referral fee by connecting people with products they genuinely recommend. Here's how it works in plain terms:
- Nōte recommends a fragrance based on your personality quiz results
- You click the "Shop now" button to view the product on a retailer's website
- If you purchase the product, the retailer pays Nōte a small commission
- You pay exactly the same price you would have paid going directly to the retailer

The simple version: If you buy a fragrance through a Nōte link, we earn a small thank-you fee from the retailer. You pay nothing extra. This is how we keep the core app free for everyone.

4 – 6% commission
The world's largest online retailer. We link to fragrances available on Amazon when they offer the best availability or value.
Sephora
5 – 8% commission
Via Impact.com. Sephora carries an extensive range of designer and niche fragrances with reliable authenticity guarantees.
FragranceNet
10 – 14% commission
A dedicated fragrance retailer offering competitive pricing on thousands of authentic designer and niche scents.
Nordstrom
2 – 5% commission
Via Rakuten. Nordstrom is our go-to link for premium and luxury fragrances with white-glove customer service.

Our Promise to You
We understand that disclosing affiliate relationships can raise questions about objectivity. Here is our firm commitment to every Nōte user:

Recommendations are never paid for. No fragrance brand or retailer pays us to recommend their products. Every match is generated solely by our AI analyzing your quiz answers.

Commission rates don't influence results. We do not prioritize higher-commission products in your recommendations. A $45 fragrance with a 5% commission and a $300 fragrance with a 4% commission are treated identically by our AI.

We link to the best available source. For each recommended fragrance, we link to the retailer offering the best combination of price, availability, and authenticity — not the highest commission rate.

You never pay more. Affiliate links do not add any cost to your purchase. The price you see is the price you pay — the commission comes from the retailer's marketing budget, not your wallet.

We disclose clearly. Every "Shop now" button in the Nōte app is an affiliate link. We do not hide this — you are always aware when clicking will potentially earn us a commission.
How Affiliate Tracking Works
When you click a "Shop now" link in Nōte, a small tracking cookie is placed in your browser by the retailer's affiliate system. This cookie:
- Tells the retailer that your visit came from Nōte
- Has a limited lifespan — typically 24 hours to 30 days depending on the retailer
- Does not collect any personal information about you
- Does not give Nōte access to your purchase details or payment information
- Can be cleared by deleting your browser cookies at any time
⚠️ Important: If you click a Nōte affiliate link but do not purchase immediately, then return to the retailer later within the cookie window, Nōte may still receive a commission on that purchase. This is standard affiliate marketing practice and does not affect your price in any way.
Nōte Premium & Affiliate Income
Nōte generates revenue through two streams — Premium subscriptions and affiliate commissions. This dual model allows us to:
- Keep the core quiz and recommendation experience permanently free
- Avoid selling advertising or user data to third parties
- Continue developing and improving the app without charging upfront
- Offer a genuinely useful free service to fragrance lovers at every budget level
Premium subscribers also see affiliate links in the app — however, Premium members have an ad-free experience meaning we do not display third-party banner advertising of any kind.
Third-Party Product Responsibility
While we only recommend fragrances we believe are genuinely well-suited to your profile, Nōte is not responsible for:
- Product quality, authenticity, or condition when purchased from third-party retailers
- Shipping times, return policies, or customer service provided by retailers
- Price changes between the time of recommendation and time of purchase
- Product availability or stock levels at any given retailer
- Any allergic reactions or sensitivities to recommended fragrances
We always recommend sampling a fragrance before committing to a full bottle purchase. Many of our linked retailers offer samples or decants.
